The Lead: Roanoke scored a 63-52 non-conference win over Salem Sunday afternoon at home.

How it Happened:

  • Renee Alquiza led the Maroons with 14 points followed by Molly Hassell with 13. Ajah Alenxander joined them in double digits with 14 rebounds as RC held a 54-43 edge on the glass.
  • Roanoke used an 11-2 run to close out the first quarter with a 20-9 lead following a layup form Alexander in the final minute.
  • The Maroons scored 10 unanswered points to close the first half, highlighted by threes from Hassell and Laura McManimen to take a 36-21 lead into the intermission.
  • In the third, Roanoke stretched its advantage to as many as 22 following a pair of free-throws from Kristina Harrel to make it 49-27.
  • With 6:33 left in regulation, Hassell gave Roanoke its biggest lead of the game with a jumper to make it 61-38.
  • Chaniece Moss and Makalla Burnette each had 11 points for the Spirits followed by Brianna Cherry with 10. 
  • Both teams shot 33.3% from the floor with Roanoke making 22-of-66 shots and Salem making 20-for-60.
