Swimming Teams Earn ODAC Wins on Saturday


The Basics

Meet: Roanoke vs. Ferrum | Hampden-Sydney
Men: Roanoke 140, Hampden-Sydney 64 | Roanoke 168, Ferrum 20
Women: Roanoke 157, Ferrum 27
Location: Farmville, Va.

The Lead: The Roanoke Swimming teams picked up wins on Saturday. The men topped Ferrum and Hampden-Sydney, while the women beat Ferrum.

Women's Highlights:

  • The team of Hadley Baker, Sarah Virginia Scott, Elizabeth Roberts and Maria Vinson won the 200 meter relay in 2:10.89.
  • Vinson then won the 200 freestyle, touching the wall at the 2:16.49 mark.
  • Reilly Bird then followed that up with a win in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.14. Bird also posted a win in the 100 backstroke (1:07.58).
  • Hannah Petty won the 100 yard butterfly, clocking a 1:13.17, before Anna Engel took the 100 freestyle in 1:07.51.
  • Grace Fountain's 4:49.29 was good for first-place in the 400 freestyle and Scott won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:17.74.
  • Fountain, Vinson, Engel and Sydney Sellers capped off the day with a win in the 200 freestyle relay, winning in a time of 1:59.61.

Men's Highlights

  • Colin Burnette, Connor Kinkema, Parker Deviller and Nick McGrath got the men on the board with a win in the 200 medley relay, completing the race in 1:52.27.
  • Ben Tate took the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:01.93 and would then go onto win the 400 freestyle in a time of 4:19.54.
  • Kinkema took first-place in the 200 meter IM, touching the wall in 2:20.64 and Burnette won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.11.
  • Kinkema would finish his day by winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.39.
  • Deviller, McGrath, David Adarkwah and Brian Grimmett closed out the meet with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay, winning in 1:40.58.

Up Next: Roanoke will be off until the ODAC Championships on Feb. 14.
