Salem, Va. -- The Roanoke College Men's Soccer team will embark on a 17 regular season match schedule on August 31st.
The Maroons, under the direction of head coach Ryan Pflugrad, will open the 2018 campaign with seven non-conference matches, featuring a trio of NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago.
"Our schedule should shape up to be the toughest during my tenure at Roanoke College and we could not be more excited to attack the challenges that it provides us," said Pflugrad. "As with the past two seasons, I expect our SOS (strength of schedule) numbers to be high. The non-conference schedule is set up to test us early and often against many strong programs which should mature us quickly heading into the competitive ODAC regular season. Having graduated 13 players off last year's roster, our group of returning and new incoming players are very eager to get started on pursuing our collective goals together."
RC will start the year by hosting the Roanoke Invitational on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. The Maroons will face Oberlin on day one, followed by Averett on the second day of the classic.
The following weekend, Roanoke will travel to nearby University of Lynchburg for the Lynchburg Invitational on Sept. 7-8. RC will take on Christopher Newport on Sept. 7. The Captains finished the 2017 season atop the Capital Athletic Conference regular-season standings with an unbeaten record. The following day, the Maroons will face 2017 NCAA tournament participant Dickinson.
On Wednesday, Sept. 12, RC will head to Maryland to meet NCAA Tournament participant Rowan in neutral site match at Anne Arundel CC. Three days later, the Maroons will host 2017 CAC Tournament Champion Mary Washington in Salem.
The final non-conference match for Roanoke will be on Sept. 19 against Southern Virginia at home.
RC starts its 10 match ODAC slate on Sept. 22 at Randolph before heading back to face defending ODAC Champion Lynchburg on Sept. 25.
A Family Weekend match with Eastern Mennonite on Sept. 28 and a match with Guilford on Oct. 3 will kick off the ODAC home schedule.
After heading to Randolph-Macon for a league game on Oct. 6, the Maroons will welcome new ODAC member Ferrum for a match on Oct. 10.
The Maroons will head to Virginia Wesleyan and Emory & Henry on Oct. 13 and Oct.17, respectively before rounding out the regular season schedule with matches at home against NCAA Tournament participant Washington and Lee (Sept. 20) and Bridgewater (Sept. 24.)
