The Roanoke women’s basketball team traveled to Guilford College looking for their third straight ODAC win to start the season. The Maroons led throughout a majority of the game before a late Quaker rally would hand RC her first conference loss of the season, 60-47.
Roanoke opened up ODAC play with a visit from the nation’s 16th ranked team when Guilford College came to town on Wednesday night. The Maroons took a one point lead into the break but a late second half surge carried the Quakers past RC, 74-58.
The Roanoke College men’s basketball team wrapped up a four game road swing with a post-Thanksgiving matchup with Averett. RC led at the half, but the Cougars rallied in the second 20 minutes to secure the non-conference win, 60-55.
After defeating Randolph college in their conference opener, the Maroons looked to go 2-0 to start the ODAC schedule against Randolph-Macon. RC took a double digit lead before the Yellow Jackets came all the way back to lead with 30 seconds to go. Roanoke converted out of a timeout and after the last second shot missed its mark, the Maroons picked up the ODAC win, 69-68.
After winning their own tip-off tournament, the Roanoke men looked to make it 4-0 in tip-off events this season when they took on Wilson on day two of the Comfort Inn Tip-Off Classic. RC would make 16 of their 30, three point, attempts on their way to a 27 point win over the Phoenix,
In the middle of two ODAC home games, the women’s basketball team stepped out of conference when they traveled to Mary Baldwin on Saturday. Roanoke used an early surge to seize control and cruised to a non-conference victory.
Roanoke traveled to Juniata for the Comfort Inn Tip Off Classic on Friday evening. The Maroons faced St. Elizabeth in their opening round game, racing out to a 14-4 lead on their way to a near 20 point win over the Eagles.
The Roanoke women opened up Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play when they hosted Randolph on Wednesday night. The Maroons raced out to a 23-9 first quarter lead and pulled away to go 1-0 in conference play to start the season.
The Roanoke College men's soccer team took the field in the NCAA DIII National Championship Tournament for the first time since 2012 when they played Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet and Maroons were tied after regulation, the first and second overtimes as the match would have to be decided on penalty kicks. RC fell after Swarthmore won the PK round, 4-2.
The RC men’s basketball team started a four game road swing with a stop in North Carolina to face Pfeiffer on Tuesday night. It was the second road game for the Maroons as the Falcons would be playing their home opener. With the score tied at 45-45, the home team would gain control late as RC fell 72-62.
Roanoke played host to NC Wesleyan in the Championship Game of the 2019 Jean Beamer Tip-Off Classic. The Maroons were down at the half but came back to take the lead in the fourth quarter. However, the Battling Bishops made a late surge to pull away down the stretch, 78-63.
The Roanoke College swim team was in the pool for the final time in 2019 when they hosted Emory & Henry on Saturday afternoon. The women won every event on their way to a 159-36 win while the men earned 25 top three finishes in defeating E&H 151-46.
After both cross country teams finished in the top five at the ODAC Championships, the runners traveled to Memphis for the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Meet on Saturday. The men came home 19th of the 36 teams while the women finished their 6K course 18th of 33 competitors.
Roanoke College opened up their home schedule with the first game of the Dick Leftwich Tip-Off Tournament in the Cregger Center when they played host to Goucher College. The Maroons raced out to a big first half lead en route to evening their record at 1-1 with the 88-50 victory.
Roanoke College lost one it it's legends with the passing of National Champion Coach Charlie Moir. Moir led the RC to the first national title of any kind in 1972 when coach Moir led the men's basketball team to the NCAA National Championship.
The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) released their 2019 All ODAC Teams on Thursday afternoon. The news comes as the Maroons are preparing for their first round matchup with Swarthmore in the NCAA DIII Men's Soccer Tournament. RC would match Washington and Lee with eight players being recognized on the three All ODAC teams.
For the first time since 2012, the Ronaoke College men's soccer team earned a berth in the NCAA DIII Tournament. After completing the season with a record of 14-2-3 and a national ranking of 17 (as of Nov. 3rd) the Maroons watched as they were selected as an at-large entry into the 2019 NCAA DIII Men's Soccer Tournament on Monday afternoon.
The 2019 All ODAC Field Hockey teams were announced on Tuesday afternoon. RC placed two on first team and another pair on the second team. Two of the quartet were named all conference for the second consecutive season.
The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced the 2019 All ODAC Volleyball Teams over the weekend after the finals of the conference tournament. Sophomore Linsey Bailey was named to the first team while first-year libero Kennedy Clemmer received third team honors.
