Roanoke College lost one it it's legends with the passing of National Champion Coach Charlie Moir. Moir led the RC to the first national title of any kind in 1972 when coach Moir led the men's basketball team to the NCAA National Championship.
The Roanoke women opened up Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play when they hosted Randolph on Wednesday night. The Maroons raced out to a 23-9 first quarter lead and pulled away to go 1-0 in conference play to start the season.
The Roanoke College swim team was in the pool for the final time in 2019 when they hosted Emory & Henry on Saturday afternoon. The women won every event on their way to a 159-36 win while the men earned 25 top three finishes in defeating E&H 151-46.
The Roanoke College men's soccer team took the field in the NCAA DIII National Championship Tournament for the first time since 2012 when they played Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet and Maroons were tied after regulation, the first and second overtimes as the match would have to be decided on penalty kicks. RC fell after Swarthmore won the PK round, 4-2.
The RC men’s basketball team started a four game road swing with a stop in North Carolina to face Pfeiffer on Tuesday night. It was the second road game for the Maroons as the Falcons would be playing their home opener. With the score tied at 45-45, the home team would gain control late as RC fell 72-62.
Roanoke played host to NC Wesleyan in the Championship Game of the 2019 Jean Beamer Tip-Off Classic. The Maroons were down at the half but came back to take the lead in the fourth quarter. However, the Battling Bishops made a late surge to pull away down the stretch, 78-63.
After both cross country teams finished in the top five at the ODAC Championships, the runners traveled to Memphis for the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Meet on Saturday. The men came home 19th of the 36 teams while the women finished their 6K course 18th of 33 competitors.

The news comes as the Maroons are preparing for their first round matchup with Swarthmore in the NCAA DIII Men's Soccer Tournament. RC would match Washington and Lee with eight players being recognized on the three All ODAC teams.
For the first time since 2012, the Ronaoke College men's soccer team earned a berth in the NCAA DIII Tournament. After completing the season with a record of 14-2-3 and a national ranking of 17 (as of Nov. 3rd) the Maroons watched as they were selected as an at-large entry into the 2019 NCAA DIII Men's Soccer Tournament on Monday afternoon.
The 2019 All ODAC Field Hockey teams were announced on Tuesday afternoon. RC placed two on first team and another pair on the second team. Two of the quartet were named all conference for the second consecutive season.
The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced the 2019 All ODAC Volleyball Teams over the weekend after the finals of the conference tournament. Sophomore Linsey Bailey was named to the first team while first-year libero Kennedy Clemmer received third team honors.
RC made the trip to Virginia Beach to face Va. Wesleyan in the quarterfinal round of the 2019 ODAC Volleyball Championships on Wednesday night. The Marlins defeated the Maroons, 3-0, to advance in the championship tournament.
The Maroons hosted the University of Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon at the Salem YMCA. In front of a pack pool, RC would roll, winning 24 of the 28 events en route to picking up two big wins over the Eagles.
The Roanoke Men's and Women's Cross Country competed at the 2019 Old Dominion Athletic conference (ODAC) Championships on Saturday. The women finished 5th with the men coming home 4th in the 12 team field.
